MP Oli Questions Government Over Benefits of Petroleum Tax Cuts

A Member of Parliament has raised concerns about the effectiveness of recent tax cuts on petroleum products, questioning whether the intended benefits have actually reached the general public. The issue has sparked fresh debate over fuel pricing transparency and market regulation in Nepal.

The MP argued that despite government decisions to reduce taxes on petroleum goods, consumers have not experienced a proportional decrease in fuel prices. This has led to questions about whether intermediaries or market distortions are absorbing the benefit instead of passing it on to end users. Lawmakers have urged the government to investigate pricing mechanisms and ensure accountability in fuel distribution.

Experts suggest that global oil price fluctuations, transportation costs, and internal pricing structures may be influencing the final retail rates. They emphasize the need for stronger monitoring systems so that policy benefits like tax reductions directly support consumers and reduce living costs.
