Accidents on the Rise Along Under-Construction Asian Highway in Jhapa
Road accidents are increasing alarmingly along the under construction Asian Highway in Jhapa, raising serious concerns about public safety and traffic management.
On Thursday night, 33 year old scooter rider Laxmi Saha lost her life after a loaded truck hit her scooter on Paliya Bridge in Mechinagar-6. The accident occurred on a poorly managed stretch of the highway that is currently under construction.
Local residents say that lack of proper signage, narrow diversions, poor lighting, and reckless driving have made the highway extremely dangerous, especially at night. Heavy vehicles continue to ply the road despite ongoing construction work, increasing the risk of fatal accidents.
Traffic police have urged drivers to remain cautious while using under construction roads, while locals are demanding better traffic control, warning signs, and temporary safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
As construction continues, authorities are under pressure to ensure that safety is prioritized alongside development.
