Kathmandu Metropolitan City Partners with Nepal Telecom to Build Integrated CCTV Surveillance Network

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken a major step toward strengthening urban security and advancing smart-city infrastructure by signing an agreement with Nepal Telecom (NT) to create an integrated city-wide CCTV surveillance network.

The partnership ensures that all CCTV cameras installed by KMC across the capital will be connected to a centralized control room, where visual feeds will be monitored in real time. Nepal Telecom, the country’s largest telecom provider, will supply the connectivity backbone required to operate the system efficiently.

Under the agreement, NT will deploy a dedicated local intranet through its Optical Fiber Network, using high-speed FTTH (Fiber to the Home) technology to connect KMC’s central office with all ward offices. This secure fiber network will facilitate seamless data transmission across the surveillance system.

Nepal Telecom’s Role in Ensuring Network Reliability

Beyond providing optical fiber connectivity, Nepal Telecom will be responsible for maintaining the reliability and stability of the surveillance network. As outlined in the agreement, the company will deliver a comprehensive set of services, including:

• Regular Maintenance: Routine system checks to ensure optimal performance.
• Emergency Restoration: Rapid response and repair in case of outages or physical damage.
• Technical Support: Continuous assistance to KMC’s operational teams.
• Network Monitoring: Round-the-clock monitoring to detect and address disruptions proactively.
• Infrastructure Support: Ensuring system functionality and robustness during emergencies.

With Nepal Telecom’s infrastructure and technical expertise, the CCTV network is expected to significantly enhance public safety efforts, improving surveillance capabilities across Kathmandu and enabling faster response to incidents.

KMC officials said the initiative marks an important milestone in the city’s journey toward smarter governance and more secure urban living.
