19 Injured in Road Accident in Jhapa

Jhapa, Oct 28: Nineteen passengers were injured in a road accident at Maidhar, Shivasatakshi Municipality-10 in Jhapa district on Monday morning, police reported. The incident occurred when a passenger bus (Pra 1-01-001 Kha 4209) lost control and veered off the East-West Highway.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, spokesperson for the Jhapa District Police Office, the injured passengers were immediately taken to Birta City Hospital in Birtamod for medical treatment.

The bus, en route to Jhapa from Manthali, Ramechhap, was carrying 25 passengers at the time of the crash. Among the injured are Raju Bhujel (39), Ichha Limbu (17), Rabilal Ganesh (20), Parina Ganesh (21), Simitra Khadka Karki (36), and her nine-year-old son Alon Karki, all from Jhapa.

Other injured passengers include Ambar Bahadur Budhathoki (65), Bhim Prasad Puri (35), Mithu Khatri (65), and eight-year-old Anu Shrestha from Ramechhap; Pradip Bahadur Basnet (30) and Kumar Basyal (28) from Dolakha; and Bhema Rajbansi, Ram Kumar Shrestha and his son Ritham Shrestha, Purna Bahadur Nepali, Shital Nepali, Avisekh Rajbansi, and Shyamlal Kisku from Jhapa district.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that overspeeding caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
