Thousands Throng Pashupatinath Temple on Mahashivaratri
Thousands of devotees thronged the sacred premises of Pashupatinath Temple from the early hours of the morning to mark the auspicious festival of Mahashivaratri today. Temple authorities opened the gates earlier than usual and arranged multiple entry and exit lines to manage the massive influx of pilgrims.
The Mahashivaratri festival, one of the most significant Hindu celebrations dedicated to Lord Shiva, is being observed across Nepal with religious fervour. Falling on Falgun Krishna Chaturdashi, the day holds deep spiritual importance for devotees who observe fasts, offer prayers, and perform rituals throughout the night.
Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers in and around the temple area to ensure smooth crowd management and maintain order. Volunteers and officials are assisting visitors, while health and emergency services remain on standby.
Devotees from different parts of the country, as well as from neighbouring India, have gathered at the UNESCO-listed shrine to offer prayers, light oil lamps, and seek blessings. Sadhus adorned in traditional attire have also arrived, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the occasion.
Authorities expect the number of visitors to increase further as the day progresses, with special arrangements made to facilitate uninterrupted worship and maintain safety throughout the celebrations.
