KP Sharma Oli Calls for Probe into Gen Z Protest Firing, Warns of Threats to Nepal’s Sovereignty

Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has spoken out on the tragic events of September 8 (Bhadra 23), when a Gen Z-led protest outside Parliament turned deadly after security forces opened fire, killing 17 demonstrators.

In his Constitution Day message, Oli expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives and demanded a full investigation into the incident. He insisted that no official order was given to fire on protesters and claimed that the bullets were fired from automatic weapons not possessed by the police.

Allegations of Infiltration and Conspiracy

Oli further alleged that infiltrators deliberately incited violence during what was originally announced as a peaceful demonstration. Without naming names, he hinted at a deeper plot to destabilize Nepal, suggesting that recent unrest may not only reflect public grievances but also calculated attempts to spread anger and false narratives.

He recalled that after his resignation as Prime Minister, government buildings, political party offices, and even the national map were set ablaze. According to Oli, these incidents show that Nepal’s sovereignty and identity are under attack by forces seeking to erase national symbols and undermine stability.

Defense of the Constitution

Marking Constitution Day, Oli reminded citizens of the hard-won charter that came into being after decades of political struggle, despite blockades and external pressure. He underlined the constitution as a shield of freedom and a symbol of national unity.

Highlighting Nepal’s achievements in strengthening sovereignty, building transportation links, and improving the economy, he called on all Nepalis to rise above divisions and protect what has been gained.

“If we fail to protect our constitution and sovereignty,” Oli warned, “they will be reduced to mere history.”

A Call for Unity

In conclusion, Oli urged Nepalis across generations to come together, defend the constitution, and safeguard national sovereignty, which he described as the very essence of Nepal’s existence.

As investigations unfold, Oli’s remarks have added a new layer of urgency and controversy to the debate over the September 8 firing  raising questions about accountability, conspiracy, and the future of Nepal’s democratic journey.
