KMC Intensifies Market Checks Ahead of the Festive Season
As Nepal gears up for the grand celebrations of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has stepped up its market inspection drives to ensure fair prices, product quality, and consumer safety across the capital.
With festive shopping in full swing, KMC’s monitoring teams have been visiting major marketplaces, supermarkets, and local shops to check for overpricing, expired goods, and misleading labeling. The city’s move aims to protect consumers from exploitation and maintain transparency in business transactions during this high-demand period.
According to KMC officials, the inspections are being carried out in coordination with the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection, alongside representatives from Nepal Police and public health departments. The inspection teams are closely examining essential items such as food, beverages, meat, sweets, and household goods.
KMC spokespersons have emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against those found selling adulterated or substandard products. The city office has also urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any unethical business practices through KMC’s complaint channels.
As festivals are a time of joy, togetherness, and abundance, KMC’s proactive initiative aims to ensure that celebrations remain safe and fair for all. This drive not only safeguards consumer rights but also promotes accountability among traders — fostering a healthier market environment across Kathmandu.
