Khagendra Sunar Dropped from Ministerial List after Public Backlash

KATHMANDU, October 26

Khagendra Sunar, who was recommended for the position of Minister for Labour, Employment, and Social Security, has been removed from the list of ministers following widespread criticism.

Sources indicate that Prime Minister Sushila Karki decided not to proceed with Sunar’s appointment due to his controversial background, which includes multiple criminal charges and being listed as a fugitive by the police. His nomination had also drawn significant backlash on social media.

A source close to the Prime Minister stated that Sunar’s name was withdrawn to avoid potential complications arising from appointing a figure with a controversial image.

In addition, Ganpatilal Shrestha, initially recommended as Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, will also not take the oath today. The reasons for postponing his swearing-in have not been disclosed, though his ministry assignment had recently been altered.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam and Bablu Gupta will proceed with their oath-taking ceremony today. Gautam has been assigned the Ministry of Health and Population, while Gupta will take charge of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
