Failed MBBS Students Vandalize TU Vice-Chancellor’s Office Demanding Third-Year Admission
A tense situation unfolded at Tribhuvan University on Tuesday after a group of MBBS students who failed their first- and second-year examinations vandalized the office of Vice-Chancellor Deepak Aryal. The students demanded they be allowed to enroll in the third year despite not meeting the mandatory academic requirements.
Students Demand Third-Year Admission Without Passing Exams
According to staff at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, the protesting students forcefully entered the premises, insisting the university grant them third-year admission. They argued they should be allowed to continue their studies regardless of their exam results, which sparked the confrontation.
TU Officials Clarify Regulations
Tribhuvan University officials emphasized that students cannot progress to the third year of the MBBS program without clearing the first two years. They further explained that the decision falls under the jurisdiction of the Medical Education Commission (MEC), not the university alone.
TU sources also revealed that some individuals involved in the vandalism were no longer enrolled, as they had already dropped out of the MBBS program.
Rules in Medical Education Under Scrutiny
The incident has renewed discussions around the strict promotion rules in medical education, student frustration over exam failures, and rising pressure faced by medical aspirants in Nepal. Officials have condemned the act of vandalism and stated that disciplinary action may follow after reviewing security footage and identifying those involved.
