Exports Surge from Birgunj Customs in First Quarter of Fiscal Year

Birgunj (Parsa), Nov 7

Exports through the Birgunj border point have seen a significant rise in the first three months of the current fiscal year, according to the Birgunj Customs Office.

Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali reported that goods worth Rs 26.59 billion were exported during the first quarter. This marks a sharp increase compared to the Rs 8.84 billion exported in the same period last fiscal year.

A major contributor to the surge was the export of refined soybean oil. In the first three months alone, 67.13 billion liters of soybean oil valued at Rs 13.98 billion were exported.

Similarly, the customs office recorded exports of 21.148 billion liters of juice, worth Rs 2.7 billion, and 36.848 billion liters of refined sunflower oil worth Rs 1.7 billion.

Other key export items included 24.95 billion pieces of garments, valued at Rs 970 million, and synthetic yarn worth Rs 660 million.

Officials say the rise in exports underscores growing industrial output and improved trade movement through Nepal’s largest customs point.
