Chhath Festival Concludes with Sunrise Offerings Across Nepal

Kathmandu, Oct 28: The four-day Chhath festival concluded this morning with devotees offering Argha (ritual offerings) to the rising sun, marking the end of one of Nepal’s most spiritually significant celebrations. The festival, which began last Saturday, reached its peak with the main Pooja on Sunday evening and concluded today amid great devotion and enthusiasm.

Across the country including Kathmandu and the Mithila region’s Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, and Saptari districts devotees gathered along rivers, ponds, and lakes to offer curd, fruits, and other sacred items to the Sun God. The atmosphere was filled with joy, chants, and traditional songs as people from all walks of life joined in prayer and celebration.

Chhath is regarded as a festival of truth, non-violence, and compassion, encouraging harmony among all living beings. Worshippers offer prayers to both the setting and rising suns, symbolizing gratitude for life and the cosmic energy that sustains it.

Throughout the festival, devotees observed strict fasting rituals consuming fruits only once on the second day and abstaining from both food and water on Kartik Shukla Sasthi, the main day of worship. Many also performed Pooja for their ancestors and the goddess Sasthi, seeking blessings for prosperity and family well-being.

According to traditional belief, offering Argha to the Sun God not only brings happiness, health, and longevity but also protects worshippers from ailments such as skin diseases. The festival once again served as a vibrant reminder of Nepal’s deep-rooted spirituality, unity, and reverence for nature.
