Case Filed Against Former PM K.P. Sharma Oli Over Gen Z Protest Deaths
Nepal’s political crisis has taken a new turn as former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli faces serious allegations connected to the deadly Gen Z protests.
Former MP Abhishek Pratap Shah has filed a complaint claiming that Oli personally ordered security forces to open fire on peaceful demonstrators earlier this month. The protests, fueled by anger over corruption, nepotism, and restrictions on social media, had already shaken the nation. The alleged firing resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen young protesters — a tragedy that has left the country demanding justice.
The complaint was submitted through the Chief District Officer of Kapilvastu and reached the Metropolitan Police Office in Kathmandu. However, police officials have stated that they “cannot register the complaint right now”, leaving many questioning whether accountability will ever be delivered.
For Oli, who resigned just days ago under mounting public pressure, this case could define his political legacy. For Nepal, it raises urgent questions about justice, state violence, and the protection of democratic rights.
The victims’ families, youth leaders, and human rights advocates are now watching closely to see whether the system delivers justice — or shields the powerful once again.
