At Least 22 Dead as Crane Collapses Onto Train in Thailand
At least 22 people were killed after a construction crane collapsed onto a moving train in Thailand on Tuesday morning. The accident happened around 09:00 local time when the train was traveling from Bangkok to a northeastern province with nearly 195 passengers on board.
Officials said the crane fell directly onto one of the train carriages, causing heavy damage. At least 80 people were injured, including a one year old child, making this one of the deadliest traincrelated accidents in recent years. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and helped move the injured to nearby hospitals.
A train staff member who survived said passengers were thrown into the air when the crane hit the train. The sudden impact caused panic and confusion inside the carriages as people tried to escape.
The Governor of the State Railway of Thailand has ordered a full investigation into the cause of the accident. Deadly construction accidents are not rare in Thailand, often due to poor safety checks and weak enforcement of rules, raising fresh concerns about public safety.
