Annapurna Circuit Trail Reopens After Snowfall Clearance

MANANG: The Annapurna Circuit trail has reopened for trekkers after being blocked by heavy snowfall last week. The popular trekking route was cleared through coordinated efforts by the District Administration Office, security personnel, local representatives, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and hotel entrepreneurs.

Bulldozers and workers were deployed to remove snow between Khangsar and Mananggaun, reopening the lower sections of the route. In higher altitudes, locals and hotel operators worked together to clear remaining snow, restoring access for trekkers.

The sudden snowfall had forced many domestic and foreign trekkers heading toward Tilicho Lake and Thorong La Pass to turn back. However, with the weather improving, the number of visitors is once again increasing.

“The weather has been getting better in recent days, and more trekkers are arriving. There are slightly more foreigners than Nepalis,”
said Karma Ongyel Ghale, Chairperson of the Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association of Upper Manang.

ACAP Manang Chief Dhak Bahadur Bhujel confirmed that the route to Thorong La is now fully open, and access to Tilicho Lake has been restored. “Trekkers from the Manaslu region have also started arriving. The trail is open for guided groups, though we have advised caution,” he said.

Chief District Officer Nawaraj Paudyal added that the trails from Upper Chame to Thorong La Pass and Manang–Khangsar–Tilicho are safe for guided trekkers. However, he urged independent trekkers to remain cautious as some sections still have patches of snow and slippery paths.

With improved weather and reopened routes, tourist activity in Manang and surrounding areas is once again gaining momentum, bringing optimism to local businesses and trekking operators.
