Pushpalal Highway Project Issues 35-Day Ultimatum to Contractors

The Pushpalal (Mid-Hill) Highway Project Office in Sitkha, Ramechhap, has issued a 35-day final ultimatum to five construction companies, requesting that they deposit approximately Rs 1 billion into the government account. This step comes as part of the office’s efforts to ensure financial accountability and maintain the timely progress of the highway project.

The highway is a major infrastructure initiative connecting several mid-hill districts, including Ramechhap, Dolakha, and Sindhuli. It aims to reduce travel time, improve access to markets and services, and promote economic development across these regions. Completing the project on schedule is considered essential for local communities that rely on it for daily transportation and trade.

Authorities explained that the amount demanded from the contractors includes pending payments and penalties resulting from delays or incomplete work. The 35-day notice serves as the final warning before stricter legal or contractual actions are taken, including potential contract cancellations or replacement of non-compliant firms.

The highway project office also highlighted the importance of transparency and regular monitoring in large-scale infrastructure projects. Officials said continuous supervision, audits, and enforcement of agreements are necessary to ensure both the quality of construction and timely completion, which will ultimately benefit the residents and traders in the mid-hill districts.

With the ultimatum in place, contractors now have a limited period to settle their dues. The government remains committed to completing the Pushpalal Highway efficiently, maintaining high standards of construction, and supporting regional development by ensuring that large-scale projects like this are delivered on time and in a financially responsible manner.
