US Military Strikes Iranian Targets on Kharg Island, Oil Infrastructure Spared
The United States Central Command announced that U.S. forces carried out a large-scale military strike targeting Iranian military facilities on Kharg Island, a strategic location in Iran. The attack reportedly hit multiple military installations while deliberately avoiding the island’s key oil export infrastructure.
According to U.S. officials, the operation targeted military assets such as missile storage sites, naval mine facilities, and air defense systems located on the island. Reports indicate that more than 90 military targets were struck during the operation.
Despite the strategic importance of the island’s energy facilities, the strike avoided damaging oil terminals and storage infrastructure. Analysts say the decision was intended to prevent a major disruption to global oil supplies and avoid further escalation in energy markets.
Kharg Island plays a crucial role in Iran’s economy, as it serves as the country’s main crude oil export terminal. A large portion of Iran’s oil shipments passes through the island, making it one of the most sensitive energy locations in the Persian Gulf region.
The strike occurred amid escalating tensions in the region linked to the ongoing 2026 Strait of Hormuz crisis, which has already disrupted shipping routes and caused volatility in global oil markets.
Following the operation, U.S. leaders warned that the restraint shown in sparing the oil infrastructure could change if Iran interferes with shipping routes or regional security. The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing Middle East conflict and has drawn global attention from political and energy analysts.
