Majority of Candidates Lose Deposits in Sudurpashchim Province Elections
A large number of candidates who contested the recent elections in Sudurpashchim Province have lost their deposits after failing to secure the minimum required votes. According to election officials, out of 206 candidates who participated in the contest across the province, deposits of 144 candidates have been forfeited following the final vote count.
The SudurpashchimElectionResults show that many candidates were unable to reach the threshold needed to retain their election deposits. Under Nepal’s election rules, candidates must obtain a certain percentage of the total valid votes in their constituency; otherwise, the deposit submitted during nomination is forfeited.
Across the 16 constituencies for the House of Representatives of Nepal in Sudurpashchim Province, competition remained high with candidates representing various political parties and independent groups. However, only a smaller portion of the candidates managed to gain sufficient voter support to retain their deposits.
