Rs 28.82 Billion Set for 550,000 MT Fertilizer Import

Nepal has set aside Rs 28.82 billion to import 550,000 metric tons of fertilizer for the upcoming agricultural season. The decision comes at a crucial time when farmers continue to face recurring shortages that affect crop production and food security.

The government plans to start the procurement process early to ensure timely delivery of essential fertilizers like urea, DAP, and potash. Past delays have forced farmers to rely on black markets, often paying unreasonable prices during peak plantation periods.

This new budget allocation is expected to stabilize market prices, increase national crop yields, and ensure that farmers across the country receive adequate supply. The government is also exploring long-term strategies such as expanding domestic fertilizer production to reduce reliance on imports.
