Red Cross Establishes Central Relief Warehouse in Bhaktapur
KATHMANDU, Nov 10
The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), with financial support from the Chinese Red Cross Society, has established a new central warehouse in Bhaktapur to enhance Nepal’s disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
Built at a cost of around Rs 120 million, the facility will store essential non-food relief items, including dignity kits for women and children, to be deployed immediately during crises.
The warehouse was jointly inaugurated on Sunday by NRCS Acting Executive Director Dharma Datt Bidari and Bian Xiao, Vice President of the Chinese Red Cross Society. Officials highlighted that Nepal’s difficult terrain and high exposure to earthquakes and natural disasters make such pre-positioned supplies crucial for effective humanitarian response.
During the event, Bian Xiao praised the NRCS for its longstanding role in supporting vulnerable communities across Nepal. He said the new warehouse would significantly strengthen the organization’s capacity to act swiftly during emergencies.
Parshuram Pandey, President of the NRCS Bhaktapur District Branch, thanked the Chinese Red Cross for its assistance and expressed hope for continued cooperation, especially in disaster management and humanitarian outreach.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Wang Xin, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, along with senior officials from the Chinese Red Cross Society, NRCS representatives, and youth volunteers from Junior and Youth Red Cross circles.
Meanwhile, a high-level delegation from the Chinese Red Cross Society is currently in Nepal to explore further avenues for collaboration with the NRCS, the organizers said.
