Adverse Weather Disrupts Regular Flights at TIA

KATHMANDU, Oct 28

Flight operations at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) were disrupted today as adverse weather conditions led to reduced visibility across the region.

According to Hansa Raj Pandey, General Manager of TIA, both domestic and international flights experienced delays due to poor weather. Several international flights were temporarily put on hold, while flights to mountainous destinations such as Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla and Simikot Airport in Humla were particularly affected.

Pandey stated that only flights operating under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) were able to continue, as Visual Flight Rules (VFR) operations were not feasible under current conditions. However, he clarified that while multiple flights faced delays, no cancellations were required.

He also noted that fixed air routes have led to heavier-than-usual air traffic during such conditions. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting Division reported that skies over the Kathmandu Valley have remained cloudy since early morning, contributing to the poor visibility.
