Nepal Bank Issues Safety Guide to Avoid Online Scams and Fake Posts
Kathmandu, Oct 8, 2025
As online fraud continues to rise across Nepal, Nepal Bank Limited (NBL) has released an important public alert to help citizens safeguard their personal and financial information. The bank warned that cybercriminals are increasingly using social media platforms and fake online advertisements to deceive users and steal sensitive data.
Stay Alert: Don’t Share Personal Details
Nepal Bank urged everyone to remain cautious online, stating:
“विभिन्न SCAM तथा FAKE पोस्टहरू मार्फत प्रलोभनमा परी कुनै पनि व्यक्तिगत विवरणहरू नदिनुहोला! सधैँ सचेत र सतर्क रहौं!”
(Do not provide personal information through scam or fake posts. Always stay aware and vigilant!)
How Online Scammers Operate
Scammers often impersonate legitimate institutions, including banks, to appear trustworthy. They lure victims with tempting offers and fake opportunities that lead to phishing links.
| Fake Claim | Why It’s a Scam |
| “Online Work (अनलाइन काम गर्नुहोस्)” | Genuine jobs are listed only on official platforms, not random ads. |
| “Earn Rs. 1,000–2,000 daily” | Unrealistic income promises are a classic red flag. |
| “No experience needed” | Designed to attract as many people as possible. |
| “Work 2–3 hours a day using only a phone” | Too good to be true — typical scam tactic. |
| “Click the link below.” | Clicking leads to phishing sites that steal your data. |
Once users click such links, they are often redirected to fake websites designed to harvest banking details, passwords, and personal data.
Nepal Bank’s Tips for Online Safety
1. Never share sensitive information
Never reveal your PIN, password, OTP, ATM/card number, or CVV to anyone. Nepal Bank staff will never request this information through calls, emails, or social media.
2. Verify before you trust
If you come across posts claiming to be from Nepal Bank — especially about jobs, rewards, or urgent notices — do not click the link. Always verify through the bank’s official website or social media channels.
