2 Bookies Arrested for Attempting to Fix Matches by Approaching NPL Players

Kathmandu: Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly attempting to influence players participating in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). The arrests come after the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) provided specific information indicating possible betting-related activities targeting players.

According to police, the suspects tried to contact players through WhatsApp and Instagram, offering them financial incentives under the pretext of “sponsorship.” Preliminary investigations suggest the real intention was to manipulate match outcomes during the tournament, which continues until December 10.

A special investigative team detained Dilpreet Singh, 28, of Haryana, India, and Rebika Singh Thakuri, 24, originally from Bardiya and currently residing in Chandigarh, India. They were apprehended from Lazimpat on Tuesday.

Police said both individuals are under investigation for attempting to exert unauthorized influence on NPL players and for promoting illegal betting activities.

They have been handed over to the District Police Complex, Bhadrakali, for further legal action, according to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
